Fairly quick commission for an off-site client of his Shadowrun RPG character, a sort of radical vigilante in the same vein as Batman or the Punisher. An interesting and complicated character to work on.
To anyone wondering, I do quick single character illustrations in pen like this piece starting at $25; if you're interested don't hesitate to send me a note.
Ballpoint and felt pen. Character belongs to his respective owner and the rights to the art are jointly held by the client and myself, the artist.

Thank you very much! Admittedly this was pretty quick compared to some of my more involved pen work, and I'm sure as hell still learning how to handle this medium more effectively, but I've gotten to the point where I'm at least pleased with most of it. I used to use technical pens almost exclusively (I still use them a lot though) and I've only dabbled in using brushes, although I'd like to practice more with them.
Believe me, when you get a good brush, it will kick the ass of any technical pen when used right. you can achieve lines thinner and thicker than any technical pen with a single brush. but untill lately I have never considered ball points as an effective art medium, yet I have seen some amazing work done with them, yours included.
Heh, oh no doubt about that; I'm using a felt tip pen with a tip that seems to be between a brush and an actual pen tip and the amount of line control is astounding, and it's not even a true brush. I think I simply need to adjust my approach with them. One of the main reasons why I like ballpoint is that they behave similar to graphite pencils, being very responsive to vagaries in pressure and texture of paper. No, they aren't as bold and as good for linework as a technical or brush pen, which is why I rather use ballpoints for detail work, textures and the like.
