The first game of the Wild World Series was met with huge fanfare in the community, as current commissioner Buddy Sealig (Seal) announced the beginning of the 70th Series to a cheer. The Swamp Foxes threw out all the stops, with a thirty minute opening ceremony with Fur Grammy Award winner Samantha Hummings (hummingbird) singing the national anthem. Former skipper Skip Morrison (Skunk) threw out the first pitch, and it was a dogfight from the beginning. The Foxes started off with two runs in the third as the bases came hot for Santiago Davila (CHA/DH/Raccoon) knocking two runs in. Jane Howard was in good form until the fourth inning, as she gave up three hits to load the bases with no out, as Michael Laumond (NLP/3B/Raccoon) struck in two runs as the bases loaded continued, but she was able to lock down and get three straight outs to keep the game even. But just as the game seemed to stretch on, the Foxes scored the goahead run in the 7th as Meredith Wynne (CHA/1B/Gray Fox) doubled Mark Haynes (CHA/RF/Doberman) in off of Kris Stellner, and Iemochi Yamasaki (CHA/SS/Siamese Cat) singled in Kenny Johnson (CHA/C/Raccoon) for the insurance run in the eigth to give the ball to Juanita Olivares enacted a 1-2-3 inning of the heart of the Pelicans' order to secure the Game 1 victory.
