Based on the yeti, the Yrrtagh are originally mountain dwellers but easily adapt to any climate - they're very hardy and proud of it. Some label them barbarians, but that's not entirely fair; they're just attracted to the out-of-the-way places where only they can live and nobody else can reach them. High mountaintops, deep untamed woods, caves in barren deserts - those are the sort places the Yrrtagh prefer to call home. They have a rich history, passed down from one storyteller to the next in the form of poetic legends, and the more religious among them believe in reincarnation - the more heroic or outrageous your death, the stronger you'll be in the next life.
Because they lived in mostly isolated pockets, the most contact other races had with the Yrrtagh back in the Old World was with the occasional small offshoot group of bandits or raiders, which made the race as a whole come across as wild monsters to anyone who didn't know them well, which in turn made the normal ones back home want contact even less. In the New World, though, everyone's been thrown together without a choice. It's anyone's guess now - how will they fare with their isolation stripped away and with everyone forced to confront the fact that the "wild mountain giants" are just people like they are?
