Basic-shaded color commission for
Triboro of his characters Blackout and Khall. It was fun doing an action scene like this, and that's my first ever chopper, woohoo! Heavily referenced thanks to Google, of course - I wouldn't know where to begin otherwise :P
I'm thinking it maybe would have looked more exciting if I'd skewed the horizon line, but when I've tried that in the past it just messes with my head and everything ends up looking like topsy-turvey land, haha. Perhaps I'd better practice that a little before I try using it in a commission X3

Well, aren't we knowledgeable? Sounds like you know quite a bit on the subject. But why the name? Only thing that comes to mind for me is "Paving the terrain with lead at low-altitude" and just shortened it to Pave-Low. Anyway, if you have a theory or actually know about how that name came about, let me know! I'm very interested
Actually I just found that out from someone else on this page... But...yeah
I'm not sure myself on the name so let me look it up now...
It's actually called the Sikorsky MH-53
It's also nicknamed the Jolly Green Giant (lol) and was actually retired from active service in 2008 though a related and very similar looking helicopter, the Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion is still in service...though it was technically replaced by the CV-22B Osprey (you know...that cool chopper with the tilt rotor that lets it act like a propeller driven airplane...)
There are a number of versions:
TH-53A - training version used by US Air Force (USAF)
HH-53B - CH-53A type for USAF search and rescue (SAR)
CH-53C - heavy-lift version for USAF, 22 built
HH-53C - "Super Jolly Green Giant", improved HH-53B for USAF
S-65C-2 (S-65o) - export version for Austria, later to Israel
S-65-C3 - export version for Israel
YHH-53H - prototype Pave Low I aircraft
HH-53H - Pave Low II night infiltrator
MH-53H - redesignation of HH-53H
MH-53J - "Pave Low III" special operations conversions of HH-53B, HH-53C, and HH-53H.
MH-53M - "Pave Low IV" upgraded MH-53Js
The version I think I've seen the most, and the one that was in the first of the recent Transformers movies as the Decepticon "Blackout" is the Last one, the MH-53M "Pave Low IV"
I think the name might come from the choppers intended mission role:
"The Pave Low's mission was low-level, long-range, undetected penetration into denied areas, day or night, in adverse weather, for infiltration, exfiltration and resupply of special operations forces. Pave Lows often work in conjunction with MC-130H Combat Talon for navigation, communications and combat support, and with MC-130P Combat Shadow for in-flight refueling."
And the MH-53J and the MH-53M had special radars, sensors, and such for making low-level missions possible:
"The terrain-following and terrain-avoidance radar, forward looking infrared sensor, inertial navigation system with Global Positioning System, along with a projected map display enable the crew to follow terrain contours and avoid obstacles, making low-level penetration possible."

There are two generations of four main variants of the Harrier family:
Gen 1:
-Hawker Siddeley Harrier
-British Aerospace Sea Harrier
Gen 2:
-Boeing/BAE Systems AV-8B Harrier II
-BAE Systems/Boeing Harrier II
The first generation harrier of the United Kingdoms Royal Airforce, the US Marine Corps, the Spanish Navy and the Royal Thai Navy is the Hawker Siddeley Harrier or Harrier GR.1 / GR.3
AV-8A/C/S Harrier which is usually colloquialy known as the "Harrier Jump Jet": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawker.....ddeley_Harrier
The British Aerospace (company name) Sea Harrier, retired by the British Royal Navy and in service with the Indian Navy came from that design:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britis.....ce_Sea_Harrier
The Second Generation of the USMC's harrier (also used by the Italian and Spanish navys) is the McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) AV-8B Harrier II: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonn.....-8B_Harrier_II an update of the BA Sea Harrier
The British second generation Harrier (Harrier GR5 / GR7 / GR9) (which is now retired by both the Royal Navy and the Royal Airforce without an actual replacement mind you...) is the British Aerospace/McDonnell Douglas Harrier II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britis.....ace_Harrier_II
...besides that for VTOL aircraft, the Marines version of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II (the product of the JSF, or Joint Strike Fighter, Program) has a vertical take off ability...the Navy and Air Force versions can't do that but are capable of other things. The Air Force varient is the standard one, while the Navy version can perform STOL, or Short Take Off and Landings and is fitted with a tail hook for landing on Aircraft Carriers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockhe.....5_Lightning_II
There was also the Russian Yakovlev (company name) Yak-141 labeled as the "Freestyle" by NATO but it was canceled in 1991 (its first flight was in 1987, and only two were built...) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakovlev_Yak-141
There was the German EWR VJ 101 which also was a VTOL design but like the Yak-141 it was also canceled (though 2 were built...: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EWR_VJ_101
There was the German Dornier Do 31, another canceled VTOL design (3 were built): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dornier_Do_31
Ther was the also canceled VFW VAK 191B... A VTOL nuclear strike fighter (3 were built): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VFW_VAK_191B
There was even a VTOL member of the venerable Dassault Mirage family of fighters: the Dassault Mirage IIIV, which was canceled after one of the two test planes was destroyed in an accident: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dassault_Mirage_IIIV
.....ok I'm not going to list each and every VTOL aircraft out there...so here's a list of them from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_VTOL_aircraft

I figured that much :P lol
I have an ex-friend whose dad collects military-grade weaponry. At least I think it's military stuff. He has a Thompson machine gun (clip fed), I think an assault rifle(might be an M4A1, I really can't remember), an FAL, and a few others. I got to hold them. It was awesome. :D

Yeah...I like them too its just that most video games make them useless at any distance greater then 6 feet it seems...by making the pellets spread way too far out...only a few games give shotguns any actual range...though Battlefield 3 happens to be one of them...especially considering the fact that you can unlock like four different ammo types for them in BF3... Buckshot (high damage and effectiveness in close to semi-medium quarters, ineffective at range, standard starting ammo), Flechette-shot (better damage from a distance then buckshot due to higher accuracy and less spread, but less close range effectiveness and damage, also has better armor penetraition), Slug-Shot (High damage and effectiveness at all ranges including near-longe range, single projectile with much higher accuracy and lower spread then buckshot or Flechette-shot, makes the scope attachments for shotguns in BF3 viable), and Frag-Shot (explosive ammo, does less (for some reason) damage then other ammo types but causes better suppression effects, single projectile with much more of an arch then slug-shot, area-of-effect damage)...BF3 has some cool weapons, including shotguns...it has the M590 (I think that's what it's called in game...), the SPAS-12, Semi-Auto (might be automatic) SPAS-15 (mag fed version of the SPAS-12), the Saiga 12K, the DAO-12 (basically the Armsel Striker drum-fed shotgun), the USAS-12 automatic shotgun and the Pancor Jackhammer Mk.3 auto-shotgun...
It also has the G36C (Carbine), the Magpul/Bushmaster ACR carbine (called the ACW-R in BF3 & 4), both the SCAR-L (Light) and the SCAR-H (Heavy), The MG36 (Support Light Machine Gun version of the G36), the PP-19 Bizon (a SMG With a 65 or so round Helical (Sprial) Magazine, the A-91 bullpup carbine (similar to the OTs-14 Groza), and the JNG 90 sniper rifle...among others...

Oh...heh...I'm not usually into big shooters...(CoD and the like)...well...other then Battlefield 3 and 4...I have however been a big fan of the Ukrainian (I think) made series S.T.A.L.K.E.R. which has three games, the first was Shadow of Chernobyl, the second (which was a prequel to SoC) was Clear Sky (mostly an extremely glorified tech demo...well...it feels that way at least...), and the last game was called Call of Pripyat...the Developer was a (mostly defunct, but still technically around) Ukrainian (again, I THINK it was Ukrainian) company called GSC Gameworld (also made a game called Codename: Outbreak, and another called American Conquest). Each game was published by a different company...
Shadow of Chernobyl was published by GSC Gameworld and THQ
Clear Sky was published by GSC Gameworld and Deep Silver (publishers of Metro: Last Light)
& Call of Pripyat was published by GSC Gameworld and BitComposer

FPSRPG? Are they for PC, are they free now, and where can I get them? :D
Seriously, Borderlands 1, 2 and PS got me into FPSRPG and then there's Destiny (Think what you will, it's repetitive, but screw it if it isn't fun to play with friends even just to screw around in social places) and it's recent update giving it more missions. The only straight up RPGs that I like to play are the Shining Force series (only played 1 so far but it was my first) and The Last Remnant(X360 only, sadly)
Sorry, now I'm just rambling

No not like that...they have a RPG system of buying, selling, missions, looting bodies... that sort of thing...but their more open world FPS with a central storyline then Shoot and loot...since there is a fixed number of weapons and only the last game has a true "free play mode"
Plus their singleplayer games with a set if Deathmatch/capture the item/etc multiplayer modes
I'd suggest looking at them on YouTube first to see what they are
(Their more appropriatly labeled by a lable I just made up...they could be called A/RP/SSH/NL/FPS games...Atmospheric/Role-Playing/Semi-Survival Horror/Non-Linear/First-Person shooters)

Wow, that's pretty overwhelming
Like I said, I'll check them out when I can. My internet is being kinda...foopy lately. This compute rand the modem/router combo seem to hate each other and I'm lucky to have even gotten here as bad as it is. I have maintenance scheduled to be over here in a few days and they're gonna set me up with a new combo that they use (our previous ISP was bought out by Media 3 and they use some different stuff and I don't think it's working out between them, our current combo, and my new compy)

That's possible, or perhaps Blackout had gone up the the edge of the ruined bridge to scout out how the river crossing looked and unfortunately got the attention of the Helicopter. or perhaps he went up there since it was a high point to try and spot that helicopter and it turned out closer then expected.. so manny reasons come to mind..
Yeah...I know the door guns and loading bay gun (on the drop down ramp) are for defense and clearing landing zones...and the door guns are often M134D Miniguns...trust me you don't want to be in the path of their bullets...they shred cars like BB guns shred tin foil...what with an RPM of 3000 Rounds of 7.62x51 NATO rounds and all that...
There's a 50BMG Gatling gun.... I've never heard of it...whoa...
You want ruin your day? Picture an A-10 Thunderbolt II (popularly nicknamed the Warthog) ground attack/close-air support Aircraft bearing down on you...It's wings may be heavily laden with bombs, Cluster bombs, and missiles, but its main weapon is the massive GAU-8/A Avenger, a seven barreled 30-mm Gatling type weapon...it's so large it's not classified as a gun...it's labeled as a cannon
Here's what Wikipedia says about the A-10, the GAU-8/A, and some of the A-10's other armaments:
"Although the A-10 can carry considerable disposable stores, its primary built-in weapon is the 30 mm GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling-type cannon. One of the most powerful aircraft cannons ever flown, it fires large depleted uranium armor-piercing shells. In the original design, the pilot could switch between two rates of fire: 2,100 or 4,200 rounds per minute; this was changed to a fixed rate of 3,900 rounds per minute. The cannon takes about half a second to come up to speed, so 50 rounds are fired during the first second, 65 or 70 rounds per second thereafter. The gun is accurate enough to place 80% of its shots within a 40-foot (12.4 m) diameter circle from 4,000 feet (1,220 m) while in flight. The GAU-8 is optimized for a slant range of 4,000 feet (1,220 m) with the A-10 in a 30 degree dive.
The fuselage of the aircraft is built around the cannon. The GAU-8/A is mounted slightly to the port side; the barrel in the firing location is on the starboard side at the 9 o'clock position so it is aligned with the aircraft's centerline. The gun's 5-foot, 11.5-inch (1.816 m) ammunition drum can hold up to 1,350 rounds of 30 mm ammunition, but generally holds 1,174 rounds. To prevent enemy shells from causing the GAU-8/A rounds to fire prematurely, armor plates of differing thicknesses between the aircraft skin and the drum are designed to detonate incoming shells. A final layer of armor around the drum protects it from fragmentation damage. The gun is loaded by Syn-Tech's linked tube carrier GFU-7/E 30 mm ammunition loading assembly cart.
Another commonly used weapon is the AGM-65 Maverick air-to-surface missile, with variants for electro-optical (TV-guided) or infrared targeting. The Maverick allows targets to be engaged at much greater ranges than the cannon, a safer proposition in the face of modern anti-aircraft systems. During Desert Storm, in the absence of dedicated forward-looking infrared (FLIR) cameras for night vision, the Maverick's infrared camera was used for night missions as a "poor man's FLIR". Other weapons include cluster bombs and Hydra rocket pods. Although the A-10 is equipped to carry laser-guided bombs, their use is relatively uncommon. As of 2000, the A-10 has not been equipped with weapon control systems for accurate bombing. A-10s usually fly with an ALQ-131 ECM pod under one wing and two AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles under the other wing for self-defense."

How's that for "creating a really bad day"?

Oh, I know quite a bit about the 'Hawg, been one of my favorites for years.
Also, the 'cannon' definition is due to the size of the round, not the weapon itself.
As for the GECAL - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GAU-19

I mean...even with its huge rounds most people don't think anti-tank weapon when you say Gatling gun or machine gun but that's what this thing is...a flying depleted uranium shell spitting, tank pulverizing, drill through the tank into the ground beneath it, death bringer!!!...
Yeah...well I think of the weapon caliber from fallout:new Vegas when I hear .45-70, though I know its a real caliber that was used in the civil war and the years afterwards...I usually think of heavy Gatling type weapons as multi-barreled "chainguns" though that's just a term for a belt fed heavy caliber weapon really...
Actually, chainguns are electrically operated, and chain-driven - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chain_gun
And the original Gatling gun, was in .45-70.

Actually, if you want my suggestion to make it more actiony, I would suggest zooming in and looking up. when you can't see ALL of what's going on, it increases the tension in the viewer, and by putting the horizon line off-center, it will give more of an impression of being in the scene.
nice job with the chopper, though, and the setting in general. I like it a lot!

The bullet tracers look a bit off in my opinion =/
I find it funny to see a sea stalion taking a more of an attacking role. (even though it it fully capible) The Blackhawk is mostly used for utility and the Cobra or Apache for strikes. The reason is that the Sea Stallion CH-53 is one big mo fo XD

*peers closely*
Yep. That's because they're too close together, especially for the light machine gun. For the helicopter gun, it might be possible for bullets to be fired that quickly, and they'd probably look like streaks in freeze-frame. But the machine gun looks like it's spraying the helicopter with water. Maybe it's supposed to be the air the bullets pushed out of the way?

Hehehe nope, it's just me demonstrating my ignorance once again ;3 I'll have to work on my bullet-in-motion effects. And I don't know one chopper from another I'm afraid, I just searched the internet for something that looked cool, aggressive and had a decent reference photo to work from XD
Definately understandable. And while I don't think the machine gun bullet-in-motion effect was perfect, and the helicopter one didn't match the type of gun firing it it, that effect of the weapons fire from the helicopter would be perfect if the helicopter had a gattling gun mounted on it.

It is in the class or series. Like a Nimitz class carrier. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikorsky_MH-53
I just looked it up actually... The Pave-Low is a Sikorsky MH-53, and the Super Stallion is a Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion both of which are based off of the Sikorsky CH-53 Sea Stallion which Wikipedia states as: "The CH-53 Sea Stallion is the most common name for the Sikorsky S-65 family of heavy-lift transport helicopters."
"The Sikorsky MH-53 Pave Low series is a long-range combat search and rescue (CSAR) helicopter for the United States Air Force. The series was upgraded from the HH-53B/C, variants of the Sikorsky CH-53 Sea Stallion."
The Super Stallion is just the current version of the Sea Stallion.
