Since some people have asked, I've made this as a quick 'what's a spook and what's not'. Since Skull foxes are not copyritten (and to be honest it's a ridiculous notion to even try) I created the spooks to be similar but different, specifically when made as a soft mount.
For a little back history, you can read up on them here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2457858/
Earlier this year I went through the process to have Spooks (name, design, and all rights) put into my name. I have the stamp and copyright number for anyone who inquires of its authenticity.
I am flexible and will grant permission to those waning to create Spook characters just so long as credit is given and permission asked for. Where I draw the line is a Spook being made. Let me explain why.
It isn't entirely based on the ownership, but the desire to keep them authentic and the quality up to standard. Each Spook represents my work and in turn me and I want to give my customers the best quality I can give. If someone else makes a Spook and other potential clients see it thinking it's my work, their impressions about my true work will not be truthful.
To younger and newer artists or just fans of Spooks in general. I'm honored you want a Spook, it makes me very happy that my little critters inspire you! But please let me remind you that by law you are not legally permitted to do so as they are under copyright. For example. You cannot go out and make an iPhone without Apple not getting upset (Just look at Samsung and Apple, those two are still going back and forth!).
If feathering and LED's is something you want on your soft mounted fox by all means go for it! But please, leave off the elongated ears as that is what really sets a Spook apart from a Skull fox. Please also refrain from calling it a Spook as that too can and has caused some confusion in the past.
As always, artwork shown and in my gallery is not for others use. Not fur tracing, copying, referencing, reposting, RPG, etc. etc. etc. Work hard like I have and practice, it's much more satisfying and you won' have half the internet lusting for your blood.

I love your spooks! To be honest, I hate how the idea of "skull foxes" boomed so much on dA after your spooks gained popularity. People just shove skulls in the heads of pelts, glue it on, then stuff it! And that's just not the same lol But I love how you take nonmountable pelts and make them into something complete that can be fully appreciated once more (:
Holly crap. Well, first off, your Spooks are SUPER cute! I hadn't really realized there was a differences and I ADORE skull foxes. I actually just made a fursuit head of one for a video I'm working on. I named him, now here is the funny part, Spook. I intended to make him a friend, Boo but ran out of time so Boo will come later. I'd like to note I HAD NO IDEA YOU HAD MADE A SPECIFIC KIND OF SKULL FOXES AND NAMED THEM SPOOKS. So please, do not think I was trying to copy you or anything like that. He does have longer ears but thats just because at 3am what are proportion? lol They dont lay back as they do in your drawing (or mounts) nore does he have glowing eyes. So again, if you stumble upon him, I wasn't trying to copy you. I'm just oblivious lol
Actually super stoked to see an artist who actually goes through with copywriting their work/creations. It sounds silly, but the artists niche I tend to see are often younger or unaware of or unable to financially afford to go through with it, so I am glad to see an artist who is confident enough in their works to legally take ownership and gladly enforce that law when necessary.
Also I love your idea for Spooks, I love taxidermy and love animals with big ears, plus of course osteology and skulls aaannnndd things that glow. So perhaps one day I'll get a chance to commission you for an awesome Spook. :3

Not going to lie. I am a slight bit confused. Are we allowed to ask your permission to crate a Spook character for ourselves? Or are they only obtained through adoptables? I am sorry if it is clearly stated, I just have a hard time understanding things. I am getting a skullfox mount in the mail and it reminded me of your spooks. I came back to this post as I have an idea I would love to use as a back story for a Spook if I am able to get your permission to create one. If not, I will just create a character from this skullfox mount I am getting and put the backstory to them instead. ^-^
Hay, I just thought the term spook descriptor a skull-faced critter (of any sort) do I need to change this title? Not a character, just a still life of my critter.
