Touch of Humanity panel
one of the panels from "Touch of Humanity" the whole book has been laid out but the dialogue will need to be refined. fortunately i have the perfect person to fix my crappy stilted words. each panel needs to be just as good or better than the best of my folios and this will be in color. I know wholeheartedly that this story will be completely rejected by mainstream media based solely on the fact that she is the xeno and HE is the human. the story quality or message will be completely irrelevant to them but fortunately that won't stop you from being able to get it, not in this day and age

Dude, I'm there. This looks gorgeous.
Would there really be that much less stigma if the xeno were male and the human female? I know there are stories like Beauty and the Beast and all that, but in those there either usually isn't explicit intercourse, or the bestial traits are much more superficial.

ever been to comic con or seen 'hentai'? one of my comic book mentors stated that "monsters with hot women sell the best" and look at mass effect, the male xenos look like aliens the female ones that you can have a relationship with are just humans with bad makeup.
what i have found is that the "mainstream" male will look at a human female with a xeno male and as he projects that xeno to be an inferior form of life (take real life slavery as an example) to himself and therefore the woman is also an inferior form of life thus allowing the "mainstream' male to do what ever he wants to women in general with out internal moral conflict.
thus when you reverse the gender visuals that same male is instantly threatened, for now he is been "brought down" to the woman's 'level' hence the negative reaction. in my 13 years of trying to be a 'professional' artist these facts have been proven by ALL the major companies (i have been given rejection letters BEFORE i sent a portfolio) with no evidence to the contrary.

*cough* avaturd does not count in the slightest as it is the same thing as taking the story "guess who's coming to dinner" and taking the black main character and magically turning him into a white man at the end so his girlfriend's parent can maintain their racism *cough* *puke* if JC wanted to say something important he would have left jake human at the end.
But he couldn't survive the planet as a human, nor could the Na'vi survive on earth. They were truly incompatible species.
Cross-species couples where the female is the non-human are sneaky. Lord of the Rings, for one. Nobody really even thinks about that one. Most of the old SNES games I play have a non human female in love with a human male.
Though, most give up their non-humanity for love. (Shrugs)

as we have had THOUSANDS of scifi stories where the atmosphere is 'breathable' that element was only to help set up the 'cop out' ending, including his " oh poor me, i can't walk even though it would be cheaper and faster to simply fix my legs and tweak my lungs so i can survive instead of taking 5 or 6 YEARS and MILLIIONS of dollars in utra specialized equipment to make a glorified bigots meat-puppet" and your 'SNES' example just proves my point even more so. if she has to change her EVERYTHING then he does not love her, period...
I know what you mean on Avatar with the black turning magically white to maintain their racism thing, it's similar to it's like taking a gay guy and magically turning him heterosexual when he is happy the way he is.
Ian Mckellen in an interview for X-Men 3 stated about the movie's cure theme of making people change to fit in which is allegories for curing people who are of different races or sexuality and repulsed by the idea:
"Well, there aren’t many of us in Hollywood [laughs]. But there are people who think gay people can be cured, so my reaction to that, that I can be cured as a mutant, is contemptuous, that people think I need curing for my sexuality. The idea that black people can take a pill that would cure them of being black is absolutely appalling to me. I’d like to hear of any character in this film who thinks this cure is a good idea, but there are some and they argue the case. It’ll get you worked up, this movie, and so it should. I don’t think people should be cured of their looks or sexuality".

I think it might also be because entertainment media overwhelmingly caters to mainstream male tastes, and it's seen as vital that the (male) viewer must be able to sympathize with the protagonist's sexual attraction. Hence why women in romantic roles tend to conform to a narrow standard of beauty, since it's seen as "universal". Deviating too much from that makes the average man uncomfortable, and a female with bestial features is a major, major deviation.
There's also the issue that most people can't/won't understand that some sexual fantasies are just that - fantasy - and don't have a real-life analog (yet), i.e. interest in human/xeno pairings is not evidence of zoophilic tendencies. Which, of course, is the major source of furry's image problem.
I guess the one way around this is to make the material yourself, which you're already doing. Thank god for the Internet and its handy ability to circumvent the traditional gatekeepers of publishing!

Wouldn't that depend on the nature of the Anthro? In many of the Sci-Fi novels I've read that contain Humanoid animals, they have more than their own culture, but a huge difference in breeding abilities. In fact, the non-humans view us as oversexed because we are able to breed at any point, where they don't even think about it until the females are in estrus.
It all depends on your own view of the Anthro. If they are merely humans with animalistic (or other) features, then yes it's just a superficiality the same as skin color.
However, if it's as most are viewed, they are more Animal with Human aspects. They would have different biological processes, hugely different societies, and world views.
Passing gas would be far more offensive in a culture that focuses on scent. How would a man who showers weekly survive in a feline culture that bathes several times per day?

you seem to have proven my statement. by calling other people 'animals with human attributes' they are denigrated to less than us. thus confirming the people i said, are truly bigots
and by your second example was pretty much when Europeans came over to china and japan in terms of cleanliness

Are you kidding? Humans are the worst species in the universe! The only species that wars for things beyond survival. We breed beyond our sustenance abilities, crowd ourselves into tiny areas and breed diseases. We kill things that don't threaten us, we assume that just because we've discovered a way to converse beyond our limited sensory abilities somehow we're better than all other species.
Giving a cat the ability to stand on two legs and use tools hardly makes it human. It's when the cat decides to kill off an entire race of ratfolk because they "Might" decide to invade their homes and eat their food..

I will totally agree with this. All of the mainstream entertainment industry caters totally to the teen-age males. In fact, I remember clearly that Avatar's females was redone in order to appeal to the teenage males.
Hence what of the teenage female? or for that matter, females who grew up on sci-fi? To me, M'ress of the Animated Star Trek is a delight to my eyes. I clearly remember, an attraction to Jenny of Bucky O'Hare.
In my youth, I clearly could see that Asimov's robots had a sexual intonation. One of the robot novels suggested strongly to me, that one of the women from Ahora was having a robotic, sexual encounter; although it's been nearly 20+ years since I read them. I believe too, that Andrew of the "Bicentennial man", was having an intimate relationship, with one of the granddaughters.
But then, take Lazarus Long of Heinlein's "To sail beyond the sunset." He was suppose to have had incestial relationships with his mother.
So take that, and extend it to the anthropomorphic community. Yes I can see the xenophilic attraction to non-humans, or in my own writing universe "Plentycaels" - 14 species of uplifted, and bio-sculptured animals. Even if they have fur, they still have standard human emotions and being alongside humans, they have similar personalities. Hence why can a man, or woman not be attracted to an Anikawi (one of the uplifted deer). They are humanoid, speak standard English, friendly, and caring. To love an Olmec, one of the jaguar species, would require more work since your being with a carnivorious, strong willed individual.
A good point you raised.

This whole thing of aliens are humans, avataring, Shreking (the end of Shrek where Fiona remains an ogre as she was a cursed human who wanted to become human again but instead of becoming her true self she is an ogre which is racist like if a white woman magically becomes black to get with the black man) and the stupid double standard that only human women are ok to be with nonhuman looking nonhumans needs to go eh?
I feel like that you have to somehow work your way up (how did these companies get so big by themselves first?) before any true change can happen, which really sucks. That, and that Cracked article said that you have to get lucky and become friends with a famous person without knowing they were finished first or giving them their respect first or something like that when they were doing one of their inspirational articles or making later.
Have you seen Bojack Horseman (lots of human X anthro romance even a human male married to a lovely deer anthro woman and produced 2 kids), Regular Show (human male married to a anthro bird woman who are Margot's parents plus Margot dating/romancing human men), Voltron reboot on netflix (a human man with a nonhuman looking alien female) etc.? finally it's accepted in the mainstream even lesbian interspecies couple Vastra and Jenny on Doctor Who.
The avataring, the shreking (the racist message at the end of Shrek of Fiona becoming an Ogress to be one forever than turning back human as she would still accept him for who he is and Shrek would still accept her for who she is rather than being an ogress) and double standards are finally dying.
A good bit of music for this scene from a unique movie:

Matches the artwork eh? for the words "I love you for who you are and what what you are for the skin don't matter" says the man and the cheetah woman says "I agree, our love has no bounds"
