Hope this helps some!
This tutorial goes over how to make a hood or balaclava cap and attach it to your resin base to allow more surface area to work off of to place the characters ears.
This method also allows the ears to collapse, making storage easy!

Thank you for posting this. One of my weaknesses in head making right now is that I could never figure out a good way for making a hood/giving the ears a base other than attaching them directly to the resin blank, or to the hood (which is kind of wiggly and extremely tedious.) I'm definitely going to give this a try :)
if you ever wanted to make super realistic ears use metal screen mesh you can bend it and its thin just like a real animal ear.
i know
qarrezel me and 1 other maker use this technique.
i know

i haven't had any problems with warping. with the hood being flexible i fold the ears down into the mask. ether way they keep there shape because of the hot glue and fur. if they happen to get a little messed up they bend right back.
when i make them i make the shape on the ear i bend it and make it as i want it to be i then add fleece to the edges so the wires dont poke. after that i have a sewn together ear and i slide that over the mesh i glue it all around making sure every part of the fur is connected to the mesh. as the glue is drying i keep it bent to that position and as the glue drys its stays the shape.
i did it with this head recently and they are very large ears i haven't had any bending or folding over problems they are very sturdy and super realistic it gives the head a nice touch.

This actually sounds like a really good idea. I've heard of the wire mesh use but I wasn't sure if I should try it because I didn't know if it was stable enough. However, I've been trying -really- hard to get super-realistic ears on my suits, as they are kind of my weak spot right now.. Where exactly can you get the metal mesh wire? o.o
