Hmm... Are you sure there? Okay you're sure. I listened to this music most of the time I worked on this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCnVu-fAc_s
I'm getting a bit discouraged with the comic, I'm not sure why because I'm a rather positive person and have spent over nine years developing my style which ultimately I ended up using for this particular story. It's incredibly difficult to create, that much is for certain and I have developed a technique that I try to keep very consistent. I've chosen a style in which I constantly have to challenge myself, and people I know in real life have been rather critical of it at times. It's like they think this is easy to do, or that I'm magical and can produce artwork without tons of mistakes. Even professional animators make mistakes. Disney's the Little Mermaid has over 100 something mistakes in it alone, what do you want from me? A cookie? I'm providing a free comic for everyone to look at. I appreciate critique, but there is a CLEAR difference in very constructive helpful critique and just blatant ignorance of how much work actually goes into each page.
So with that, I would like to make some things clear:
- No I will not change the lineart or coloring style of characters to meet your tastes. This is my comic. I've stuck with a consistent lineart style from the beginning and I would really love for me to continue to develop that style, much like how Jim Davis developed Garfield. If you look at the original comic strips of Garfield, he's really anal and extremely adorably obese looking -intentions I think of Jim Davis's style. As Garfield developed, Jim's style became cuter and more defined, Garfield lost weight. I will continue to work with my own lineart and coloring style to define it as I see fit, as I try to mimic what I see my mind. It's not for YOU to interpret back to me.
- Furaffinity and Deviantart diminish the quality I put into the pages by quite a lot. So you are not seeing the crisp clear image that I have saved and with that, detail to Ruga's face, especially his eyes and clothing are lost. I'm sorry about this but I don't know how to fix it.
- I am aiming for a semi-realistic style with some exaggerated cartoonish qualities (especially in faces). In real life you would not see a heavy outline around a person flying around out in the snow or in any other situation. You would see that that person was blending in -or to even other backgrounds. I will continue to keep it that way, this is what I've aimed for and am sticking with it =).
- I appreciate it when people point out critiques about the pages if they are having a visual interference of some type on their end, so I can try and make the viewing as consistent and possible for each screen monitor. I try to do this by switching between my laptop with a very high quality video card and an ipad screen and a basic tablet screen. I try very hard to make everything appear the same but it's not always possible. So what you are seeing might be different than what I am seeing, but don't be afraid to tell me =).
- Sorry, I won't change a character's appearance to meet your tastes. Go make your own sci-fi story.
- If you are just finding too many errors in the comic to enjoy it (things are bugging you too crazily like my anatomy errors, or coloring errors, or whatever) please stop tuning in to the pages. Seriously. All I can do is try my best, apply the helpful critique I am given and move forward but I am not a failure if I create a lot of mistakes. I am self taught, and everything I know comes from just the experience I have with myself. Please understand how difficult it is to provide a massively detailed free comic like this for others to read. You don't owe me anything, and I don't owe you anything. I am providing free entertainment, which I don't have to do, because I do intend to have this work published as a paperback. I could just skip it all and not share it with others until final printing after editing, but I'm choosing to, because it makes me happy and I like to make other people happy.
- Ruga is NOT a girl, he is a BOY and it's OKAY if boys have long hair too, especially SUPER long hair and that doesn't make him an ANIME character or all powerful or whatever or unrealistic. He's a make believe ALIEN from a make believe Alien Species of Monkey Sapiens. How can I possibly make that any more clear? Ruga's hair when untied before it was zapped shorter, would have dragged far behind him on the floor. It was extremely LONG and much of it was cut off when the Foo Fighter zapped it off. There seems to be some confusion about his hair. His hair was that long because he had spent his entire life growing it out, never cut or trimmed it because of his cultural beliefs -much like a lot of cultural beliefs in our world, where men EVER cut their hair. True fact. Male Tethicans grow their hair out until they are married (this goes into great detail in Book 4 of Galaxy Magnolia). He however, wasn't supposed to let it drag on the floor at all, but he's lazy, arrogant and defiant so he was going to do what he wanted. There's a lot of metaphorical meaning behind his hair and what reflects from society today with teenagers and how they grow up with difficult cultures and parenting methods. There is a reason for almost everything in this story.
- And I'm sorry if I'm coming off as ranting too much lately. I am pregnant (hormonal and emotional) and under a lot of stress right now writing out book 5, working on the graphic/comic pages and preparing for the new baby or babies along with getting ready for Christmas. I'm trying to keep a lot of people happy all at once including myself, so it's just better that I address the issues at all once in order to make things easy and peaceful for me, so I can continue to work on the graphic novel without too many downers. Honestly sometimes lately it's just hard to get through the pages because of the lack of consideration people have to how much work actually goes into these pages. I am not trying to offend anyone, I am just standing up for what I believe in.
