With wards you have to be smart and give them time to completely deploy to be at full strength. Lesser wards break easily against high level spells, "greater ward" is all powerful, you can even block dragon breath with them and take no damage when you use them right a side from standing on the fire hazards the dragon flame breath causes.
Welp not from my experience, Greater ward would still block it, the description on the ward spells lie lol. you could still block very high damage spells. You probably weren't able to do a plain double palm cast ( greater ward in both hands cast with out the dual cast perk) or dual cast greater ward.
