"Contrib" is the expression SF fans use for any sort of contribution to a fanzine -- article, illustration, or letter. It wasn't uncommon for the editor of a zine to try to spell out what he wanted in an illo. Some artists took this in stride, others were only too happy, and then there was me. I didn't much like illustrating to order.

Now how do I get elected President of the United States, so I can make a Hat Trick? Appearing to be intelligent, fore-sighted, and ethically motivated obviously doesn't make the right impression on most voters.
(A Hat Trick is a term from hockey. I don't know if any other sports refers this way to getting three goals or scores or whatever in one game.)

33 years ago? I was in hell//// high school at 17, and some stray drawings of mine had just drawn the attention of a member of the school student paper, which presently published some of them. I was too messed up at this point to take much benefit from this unexpected turn of events.
