After my last pic I submitted I had a nice conversation with Tavaris. The result of it is this: A new species.
The name of the species is Candydog (blame AikDingo for it) and I will make a species sheet of it too.
This nice fellow is the gift Tavaris made me. ^^ She made the second member of the new species. Her name is Hope (yeah, this time it's a girl). Isn't she beautiful?
Here is Tav's version: http://tavaris.deviantart.com/art/Hope-82693054
Wasn't easy to color her, but I like it.^^
I also made a n eye tutorial of this, which can be found here:

Dude...I wanna candy dog now...^^; XD
She's gorgeous! I love her markings. You're a master of this shading style! How is it that you get that fur detail on her tail, neck, and hair? I've been trying to figure that out, but I just can't? Kuitsuku's tutorial is pretty simple...I do wish I could figure out that fur shading...^^;
I'm gonna take a look at your eye tutorial now. :D

XD Thanks for the compliment. I really get used to this style.
The fur shading is the most laziest way for me to make a nice fur texture. ^^' ALthough there are a few presteps to be made, but otherwise it's pretty simple. Just using the lassotool, the gradient tool and the layermodes. (Linear dodge or screen, mostly)

Psh! Lazy! I think not!
I never thought of changing the layer settings for something like this. I must try this once I come up with a good enough picture to shade like this. I think gradient shading works so well with characters with brighter colors. It probably wouldn't work as well with Sombra. ^^;
Hey, do you mind if I made a Candydog?

Yeah it works best with bright colors. I'm not sure if it would work with Sombra too. maybe it will, if you choose different shadow colors (like a dark high saturated purple instead of a darker shade of grey). ANd payling with the different layermodes often works.
I would be happy if you do. I wanna make a little Candydog family. Hope will get a sister soon. When I can think of a good design. ^^' I also wanna make a Species sheet for Candydogs, because there are a few specific things that make a dog to a Candydog, like the tentacles, bright and colorful markings, huge eyes, fluffy fur, all in all they are like the name implies, sweet like candy. ^^

I often shade Sombra with purple now. But finding good shades of purple get's hard sometimes. ^^;
And yay! I think mine'll be mainly lime green. That's my favorite bright color...and my favorite flavors of candy are lime green...^^; XD Or yellow 'cause I like lemon flavored stuff...but lime green is an awesome color. XD

^^ Actually I finally made my profile and you can find it there, but that's ok. XD
I use my very first artprog I ever got: Photoshop 7. And the whole process of making the fur effect is more of a lazyass style than anything else. It's all about layers and layermodes.
I also have Paintshop Pro and Opencanvas 1 and 4, but I hardly use them. Everything I learnt about art and drawing three years ago I learnt with PS 7 and my tablet (also the reason why I have trouble making my sketches on paper ^^').
"I wouldn't even know where to start to try and make an image like this."
-X'''D Actually that was the same thing I thought as I saw your pics.

Haha...oh man, I see it now. I realized it was probably somewhere obvious....I was just in so much awe.
Wow...PS 7? I mean...I can see how PS could do that....it's just amazing what you're doing with PS 7. Your style is so sleek and polished. Wonderful work.

HAHHA! Oh that's most amusing! ^_^ Pretty much I just do a detailed sketch, scan it into Photoshop (I use 5.0), copy the image to another layer and "cut out" the characters, then I'll use the multiply brush to color them in and still keep the values and details. I'll also use overlay, screen, and others to get the highlights working, do some darkening with Image>Adjust>Variations, and a few other things.
The backgrounds are usually a collage of both art and photos and textures. With the textures, I'll stretch it to fit the screen and then work with how the layer itself is treated by trying Multiply, Screen, etc., etc., until something looks complementary to the art. I donno, I've never really done an image the same way twice...,my methods mutate all the time.
