Emperor Ublaz is the first character of the series I’ve drawn that’s from a book I haven’t read yet (Pearls of Lutra). I had to read up on him, and got the impression that he was charismatic and friendly, despite being a villain. Instead of going with the usual "evil grimace" I decided to draw him with a bit of charm instead. I also improvised on his clothing a bit.
Sooo... hopefully I got him right?
Also, I may be opening up for expression sheet commissions soon, depending on how busy I am. I've seen some around and they look fun to do. I just want to make examples first and figure out pricing.

He was a fascinating character. He didn't seem quite as evil as many of the others. Granted, he ordered a clan of sea otters to be slaughtered because he wanted a set of pink pearls. However, he wasn't present for that. He really was like a Roman emperor in that way — living it large at home, used to having it good, not minding if a few skulls had to be crushed occasionally for his luxury.
It's worth nothing that he didn't have slaves, though. In fact, there didn't appear to be any "goodbeasts" on his island of Sampetra.

Oh my god I can finally comment! Ugh FA x_x
You did a great job capturing Ublaz' affluence, especially given that you haven't read the book. He was never really the polite or friendly sort, very power-hungry and actually downright cruel to some of his subjects, but he was obsessed with hording treasure like the Pearls of Lutra themselves.
But anyways, enough about the character. I think you did a great job capturing how he might look: not beefy like some of the villains, but not completely thin either. Very well done Tem :3

I should also point out that his subjects weren't exactly the nicest pieces of work. Those lizards seemed rather, well, bloodthirsty.
I'd also put it out there that Ublaz maaaay have had a snake fetish. After all, the trained coral snake… and the hypnotic gaze… hmm. If I didn't know better, I'd almost think he housed a serpent spirit.
It's funny — he was certainly not the evilest of Jacques' characters, but his name is almost identical to the Proto-Germanic for "evil", *ubilaz

Definitely do, it's a decent book. Martin is a bit annoying because of how perfect he is, but otherwise it's a fun read :) And yeah, Ublaz does have a more refined look to him, but deep down he's still very similar to the other villains, but you'll see how soon enough if you read the book ;3
