Yippee! Main main character!
Again, screw the detailed story. Bruin is an orphan adopted by a family in Kyve to keep their children company. At 17 he aquires Starshadow, a Gryphon with whom (<-oh my mum would be happy with my grammar) he forms a bond. A few months later he hides two Shifters (Tae and Narsh, yay) in the family home, and then leaves after his foster brother threatens to turn him in to the authorities.
After that he basically moves around, being a general pain in the arse for the Waknutian authorities and developing his mage abilities.

Woo, Bruin. Damn humans and their anatomy . Ok, he seems to be slouching, his legs are too long and screwed up and I hate his hand. Otherwise Im happy. I think Im improving.
On an interesting note, Bruin's new bear markings came from his original design (way back when in the burned and destroyed recesses of my characters). His hair in human form was once grey, but it is now the colour that he had when he was a pipecleaner animal (which is how he started off, I still have him. He was named after Sally Lockart's daughter's teddy bear, from the Ruby in the Smoke series by Philip Pullman). Im much happier with both designs, though his face looks a bit like my friend from primary school. Oh well.
