Here's a very old short story I threw out in a very short timeframe when I felt creative enough to do it. I figured I'd at least share the thing online because it's going to rot on my external forever otherwise, and maybe it'll prompt me to write more or improve in the future. It's also very unedited because I didn't want to tinker with it after all this time.

The setting for this story is an offshoot of a long-running sci-fi roleplay continuity I was part of. We ran a secondary group that was victim to the effect of the first group's actions, focused on survival after their home planet was hit by a nuke launched by the big bads -- and the destabilization to their world that followed. While our main cast escaped unscathed, not everything was left in order on the world below.

This side story's cast featured some combat-oriented furs as criminal organizations attempted to seize control -- but focused heavily on a group of younger folks who found themselves in the position of taking up the mantle of becoming the press, including a hobbyist radio pirate that I played. I never really did too much with him, but I liked the idea, as he was definitely not much like Erich, the main group character I played. Hope it's worth a read!
