My XMas card.
Home studio. Dual silver foil umbrella flashes, dual SB-900s powered by SU-800 commander. D700 w/24-70mm f/2.8. ISO 200, Programmable Auto mode. Cheap-ass Vivitar remote trigger. Tethered using Capture One Pro with previews over Wifi to my iPad using Capture One Pilot. Way easier than checking to see if each photo came out.
This was a serious pain in the ass to do by myself, but I think it was worth it. At least, I'll tell myself it was.

I tried spot focus but there was really no way to tell precisely where my face would ultimately end up. Manual would have ended with the same issue. I ended up trusting the area focus, and since I was using flash, I figured the aperture would be high enough that it would work fine. Also, my head was the closest focal point, and since the camera has a tendency to area focus on snout-tips, I figured it would get pretty close.
It's not PERFECTLY focused on the eyes, but it's close enough.
