I finally traded off my project 1965 Ford Thunderbird today. I took in this 2001 VW Jetta. Its got the 5 speed manual, 2.0 engine and loaded.
Her dark blue color earned her the name Luna. I still got to figure out the damn key fob and how to open the trunk. Plus scare up an owners manual.
Now to get some serious commissions to pay for the plates and registration this next week, plus insurance .
I'm gonna miss the 'Grey Ghost' but she was financially too much a project car for me.

Don't let Hozz hear you. A block heater fixes the cold weather and Though diesel is a little more expensive per gallon, you're going to get 60+ miles per gallon and it doesn't really vary between city and highway. But he's a diesel mechanic at heart and I've heard this speil a million times. He so wants to get us a little diesel VW.
Not to mention significantly longer engine life. It equates to a cheaper overall cost of ownership. There's much less to a diesel engine, no ignition, injection system is fixed, for all intensive purposes. Emissions systems up until recently have been, more or less, non- existent. (emissions systems account for a lot of problems in modern engines) The only downside is, in a crisis, everyone is going to have spare gasoline, almost no one will have cans of diesel laying around. Unless you're on a farm. Like me.
I tried finding you a manual to download, they are hard to find free.
Congratulations on this new vehicle! May it serve you faithfully.
FYI,
Diesel is initially more expensive, however, with the extra longevity of the motor as compared to gasoline, and the extra miles- per gallon, Diesel is actually cheaper by and far.

if touching the grip doesn't open it, there might be a cable sheared off, or the grip's switch is broken. but the latter is unlikely.
alternately checking every fuse might help, not all fuse applications are listed in the manual.
as for a manual you might be lucky and find one on the maker's web page as pdf.
sorry to hear you had to give away the tbird. but sometimes one has to depart... I still miss my 1972 Ford Consul 1.7 sedan. slow, but comfy.

DUDE! i had a 2001!.. LOVE that model year!.. in fact i love the body style so much I'm huting for a TDI or VR6 in the mark 4 series I had mine for a LONG time before selling it before leaving for Basic Training.. I see you already got the Timing belt done.. hopefully they did the water pump to and paid for the Metal Impler instead of plastic
some things to look out for on this.. Enging sludge not much you can do about it but look for bad proformace
Electical issues.. such as the alarm going off and doors locking and un locking by themsvels
Window regulator, they use plastic clips and can break and slip cusing the window to crash down
ECU,, mine went through TWO.. if your driving and suddenly loose power, even with the gas peddle pressed its because the ECU isn't communicating
Honistly i fucking LOVE my Jetta.. His name was Jenner! the rat from Secrit of Nime… because the little rat bastard cost me a lot of money on repair bills LOL

Awesome looking car and I love the name. I have a 92 Dodge Dynasty that I named Discord mostly because of the dashboard that does not match the rest of the car (original one was warped so much that it was easier to find a different one than try to fix it) and the different mechanical problems it gave me for the first year I had it (biggest were the transmission that went out after I payed to have some rust repaired and then having to replace two pistons because of broken rod bolts and a bent rod). Was a pain fixing it all the time but I did learn how to work on cars so I guess I got something out of it. Got to the point that the guy at Midas knows me on a first name basis lol
