I've been getting into Xmen stuff lately (I guess the new movie started it, even though it wasn't that great a movie. The first 2 were much better, in my opinion). And, of course, I had to wonder what power I would have if I had one, though truth be told I'd already thought of it a long while ago >.>
I would choose to be able to control light (and darkness, because darkness is, technically, the absence of light). This would allow me to do a multitude of things, including create strobes, mirages, and shadows. I would not need a costume because I could clothe myself in layers of light and darkness. I could appear as a shadow, a bright light, or, if I concentrated hard enough, I could be invisible. And for parties I could give myself glow-in-the-dark "tattoos." ^^ As far as fighting goes, I'd be able to create lasers. Also, if it's true that light can become a liquid and/or a solid (because light acts as a wave and a particle, and particles can take any of the 3 major forms (gas, liquid, solid); I think scientists are looking into this), then I would be able to create objects of pure light, though how usable they would be is unknown.
If I were to really make myself into a "X-man," mutant type character (I feel very self-conscious thinking about it), then I think my character would, ironically, have bad vision (not blind, necessarily, just badly in need of glasses). This would probably be a result of his first encounter with his abilities (say, for example, he accidentally set off such a powerful light that it damaged his eyes).
Anyhow, tell me what you think, I'd love to get some feedback on the idea (and if it's been done before).

I added this as only my fourth favorite, thus far, and mainly because of the story behind the image. It's a neat picture, no doubt, but you've really put a lot of very intellegent thinking into this.
I never have, which is strange considering all the abstract places my mind leads me. Give me a few days to think on it, and I'll finger what my mutation would be.. I'll try to make it worth your while to find out, by choosing something GOOD.

Well, lessee, you could simultaneously end all the 'screw in a lightbulb jokes' with your light fist and then bust said bulbs out with dark fist. x3 I mean...I always like anything involving duality; it sort of gives rise to some sort of internal struggle goings on beneath face value. Me likeys. :3

Ya know if you wanted the most powerful of X powers it would be the control of energy. since all matter is composed of energy you would be able to effect any thing. you could convert matter to energy ( whitch there is a lot of energy in any matter hell a pen has enough energy potential to level a city ) control hot and cold which is all because of energy. and so on and so forth. (come to think of it you would be almost godlike )
Welp.. I did my thinking. It seems everyone is going with "lightning", or "energy", which is cool, but not for me.
I can't help but be fascinated by the control of time. The ability to slow down... stop.. or even rewind everyone (including, but not limited to, yourself even). Imagine the thought you'd be able to put into every action if you had 1 or 2 minutes to think about it, instead of just the blink of an eye.
Even lightning moves at a certain speed.. something we measure by calculating distance over TIME. You'd be almost untouchable. And on the more practical side.. it would save me a bunch of money on my car insurance. :D
