oookay, here's my entry for Jaiko's contest =}
College has been brutal recently so I had little time to work on it and got really really rushed to finish. But I got my acceptance letter from Georgia Tech, so it's all good!
This song is uplifting trance. It's really groovey and danceable (BASSSSSSSSSS). Enjoy!

This would be... ok background music. For a movie, or something. It's danceable, but trite, repetitive, and doesn't really bring much to mind other than the dance floor. What this submission does have that I'm very much fond of is the obvious touch of experience. You, sir, know what you're doing and know your way around production software, fabulous. I do feel the slightest hint of dark looming towers with low droning lights. Next time, I would recommend trying to be creative for a change, instead of recreating the same tired BS techno. Still, considering your "competition"...
...This submission is my pick for number one, because it actually brings to mind the theme, and has some professional mixing behind it. Add a notch to your belt there, cowboy.

The semantics behind the dance community are not something that I ever care to be fluent in. I would not be ale to tell a person the difference between trance, drum'n'bass, techno, happy hardcore, or anything that I would hear at a con dance or a rave, because the differences are subtle.
In the end, their beats are all repetitive and the only true bit of composition found in any of them is whether or not the producer knows how to create a phrase.
There's no reason why you should be here questioning my knowledge anyways, I only did this for fun.

Eshmasesh you indeed have a good entry here. I like it. I believe you captured that futuristic feel, that high-tech city in the sky. I indeed can picture a t this night city that is busy-busy all around, despite with the moon's high definitely one of those "city's that never sleep". People, Furries, and Androids alike walking the crowded side walks with cars (possibly hovering ones more likely) zipping through the streets. It's most certainly the techno/trance characteristics and bass that assist in the capturing that image.
I have to agree with Rune, I'd pick this one to be number one.

Oh wow! :D NICELY done trance song you have here Eshmasesh, very much worth the effort I can tell you pumped into this to give it so many unique flavors and attitudes in capturing the flavor of a rather futuristic city without giving it too much of a cyberpunk attitude. The synths are magnificently rendered from every electric modification and pulse as something I would VERY willingly take out to the dance floor in a futuristic setting.
The mastering and little tricks scattered here and there are impeccable, and the only thing I can honestly think of to add to this piece would be the addition of a stronger lower end in the bassline as it seems a little weak in that range. A strong bass line doubling under the octave after the bridge MIGHT be of some service if you apply some of those same very creative aftertouches in the repetition. It's little surprises like those that really get my attention, not to mention that the rhythms are absolutely fascinating in the way you interlace and intercut them between the voices. Personally, I think you should really consider making this someday into a longer mix and perhaps even test your hand at recording in an acoustic setting so as to this piece, even if it's just something simple like live electric guitar, for example.
Hands down, I would rate you as the number one contestant in this competition, though I think everyone who entered deserves a very special mention for having been brave enough to take their time and submit. Thanks to all of ya. :)
