Ternary Polarity Arc (In rough chronological order)
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
It was an accident. A clumsy slip of the gloved hand. Some call it a prank by a 'mon, others don't know what they even saw. Whatever the case may have been, the situation escalated within the first fifteen seconds.
It started calmly enough. The attendant was out sick and the stand-in was taking a lunch break. Tracey was passing through on her way back to the staff elevators when a customer she passed by the Evolution Stone display asked to see a thunder stone.
Normally Tracey would've deferred to the 'mon manning the counter, but she was the only one there. She also knew that in most cases the stones require physical contact to work or at least proximity to a sufficiently willing subject before they start doing what they do. Though there were also known reports of 'mon that had enough control over the evolutionary urges to resist it and actually physically touch the stone without evolving. But Tracey was not such a 'mon. Knowing the odds of her resisting it were abysmal, she took out a pair of gloves from her pocket and slipped them on before opening the display case.
The stone was removed from its display and lifted up for the customer to view. The smooth surface of the stone combined with the texture of the glove caused it to slip when her hand cramped. It slipped free of her grip like a bar of soap escaping from the hands of someone in the shower. She scrambled for it to keep it from hitting the floor but only kept it juggling in the air until she ended up on her hands and knees with the stone teetering on the case above.
She thought it would stay there, but it fell over the edge as she started getting back up. Before she could blink it got into the sleeve of her glove and pressed against her skin. The next thing the cameras saw was a light show. The next thing she felt was the sensation of her torso being constricted and fabric ripping or snapping. She reflexively removed the glove with the stone in it during the evolution itself thinking it couldn't use its charge if it was only in contact for a second. She was proven wrong. It didn't matter how fast her reaction times were, this was energy and not a physical thing like throwing a ball.
In the space of fifteen seconds Tracey went from showing off a stone to being affected by it. Besides finding it harder to breathe for a moment, her perspective of the world had gotten a tiny bit smaller. Her feet hurt, her skirt was much tighter than it was just seconds ago, and her midriff felt a draft. Everything felt wrong and off kilter. Then she looked down.
What she saw put her in a mild state of shock. At the same time she felt a rush of blood flush her face. Not only did she evolve, but the mass increase had nearly wrecked her clothes. A strap of her bra outright snapped, her office dress was threatening to rip itself apart at the seams while the buttons in it were dangerously close to popping off. Her pantyhose were ruined as were her shoes. The skirt she liked wearing to the office managed to survive though it now had a larger hole in the back due to her tail. Her underwear had become too small and had slid down her hips yet thankfully got stuck in displaced fur before they could make things any worse. And finally her prior pudge had been redistributed and the evolutionary process updated her proportions, meaning her bust got a little larger as well and frankly that was the least of her worries.
Her worries were at the time more centered around if her clothes would finally give up and render her publically indecent in a fit of tearing fabric. Second was her changed body. It felt alien to her. Even her tail was longer than her legs by a half foot and could become a tripping hazard.
As humiliation started to ebb and shock became more dominant, one of her hands reached up and pulled at the left shawl lapel of her business dress, testing the fabric to see if it would hold. Another part of her brain started working after a couple of minutes of fumbling, and it was telling her that she should cover herself with something very soon and to get replacement clothes as soon as possible.
... And what is she going to tell the kids? Or Silas? "I had a major clutz attack at work today" wasn't going to be enough.
