Basalt's birthday was coming up and she was dealing with crappy tax stuff, and I don't like seeing Basi all grumpy-style, so I wanted to draw her somethin'!

I wanted to do something more animated.. dancing on the beach or something, but My brain wasn't having anything of it, so I went with the first thing that came out. I'm quite happy with the drawing, particularly relative to the time it took to make it. My workflow is slowly improving and I'm getting better at sketching stuff out fairly quick.

The background is very experimental in that I'm trying to learn to whip out stuff that conveys a particular setting accurately, while taking as little time to render as possible. The exercise requires a lot more knowledge of basic color and value theory than I currently possess.

Anyway, she liked it! That makes me happy. Yay random giftart!
