A woodwind quintet piece for the usual suspects (flute, oboe, clarinet in Bb, horn F and bassoon). Written to describe a trek through a hazy, mist filled forest where we meet timid yet curious forest creatures. Soon we find ourselves getting caught in a winding river with rapids which, after a somewhat raucous journey, opens into a large lake with a view of a large majestic mountain. The journey comes to an end as our path leads through the lower forested regions of the mountain, the setting sun casting beautiful colors all around before we finally arrive at the forest's edge.
Trying to work with some extended harmony, non-functional chord progressions and a somewhat free-floating tonal center. And the horn player better not complain about that high Bb!
I'm very pleased with how this came out so please feel free to leave a comment, it always makes me happy kitty!
