Gräf Lothar is the first dedicated villain I have created for Gräfin Elsa. Like Elsa, he is based on a WW1 fighter, in this case the Fokker E.1.
Lothar hails from the newly reconstituted German nobility that emerge after the collapse of the Federal German Republic. His family was wealthy and powerful before that, and their grip on their lands grew stronger as they administered more control over it.
Lothar came to represent the more stereotypical view of nobility's more twisted side. Egotistical, arrogant, power-hungry, and sadistic, he came to dominate his family's grip on power despite being one of it's youngest members. His cunning and cruelty behind the scenes was considered second to none.
One lurking concern he had was that of being a bachelor. He was keen to cement his 'respectable' image by taking a wife, but his strict requirements left him with few options. His main requirement was that he would only marry a woman of German nobility. His insistence on this was also the main problem, as most single German countesses had been married off by the time he was ready to marry. Elsa was one of those few who was still single. Both were still human when she was first offered by her family, but he flatly rejected her as being overweight and unattractive.
Several years later the allure of gaining considerable power as an Avian took hold and had himself changed as such. Elsa had been forcibly changed at roughly the same time, but through a different effort unbeknownst to him. Expressing a passion for the German Empire, he modeled himself on an aircraft of that time period. Sometime later Elsa was once again offered to him as a potential bride, hoping that both being Avians would be more appealing. But once again, Lothar rejected her, this time over her emaciated and sickly appearance. He still considered looks very important and even if she was a countess, he had no desire to be seen with a 'rotten corpse'.
When most nations chose to strip Avians of their rights, the German states were no exception. Lothar chose to remain, presenting the appearance he gave up his freedom to become a loyal servant to his state. In reality, he maintained his authoritive grip, remaining the 'power behind the throne' wish no one, not even his family, would challenge. Several years later heard rumors of a very powerful and attractive German Avian who was said to be a countess living in exile in Japan. Intrigued, ventured to meet her and was stunned to see that it was Elsa. She was indeed a very tone and appealing woman, and Lothar felt she was now perfect for him.
Elsa, on the other hand, remembered Lothar all too well, and this time it was she who rebuffed him. His arrogance and sadistic nature was just the thing she did not want to have around her, and she angrily informed him she would never be his wife. However, he had no intention of taking 'No' for an answer, and after meeting her in private, he threatened to make her life very difficult unless she joined him. He had waited a long time to find the right woman, and he was determined to have her no matter what.
Despite his obsession being similar how 'Shock' expressed with Sea Vixen, Lothar did not harm Elsa directly. Instead, he attacked her friends, warning them that such attacks would continue until Elsa joined him.. His cold-blooded plan was to either filled Elsa with guilt and make her come to him to save her friends from his torment, or he hoped other Avians will turn her over to him to save their own skins. He remained elusive, and with his iron grip at home, he remained untouchable there. However, he underestimated the resolve of her friends, though the torment placed on Elsa's conscious was not easy for her to deal with.
