I feel like you should probably try to block in most of the patterns/main shadows in before you start adding in fur detail. Get the shadow-base first. Idk- it looks like you just jumped right into the fur.

Regardless! Looks real great so far! made nice dept and distance with it!

What I find so maddening about coyote fur is that their blocks are basically different patterns (blocks of different mixes too). It's like 5 versions of salt and pepper.

I might do the modeling shadow as an overlay, and put back some big translucent blocks of color at 20% to make the details fall into each other.

I've got it now! It was way over saturated, and needed about 30 min more of the blur finger tool.

I dunno. I myself have a very hard time trying to figure out color patterns on fur. Maybe do values in gray scale and have a separate layer for local color and blend those two together and then do hue adjustments for the light color/ reflective color/ translucency and all that other jazz.
