Hmmmm, so if a real furry somehow showed up at a convention what would they have to do to qualify to be in a costume show? After all how they really look, even though everyone else is trying to emulate it, isn't a costume.

Or an actual ET at WorldCon ...

I get this idea of the furry fans dismissing the real furry as looking too fake and unrealistic after getting so used to the costumes a real one would look too 'wrong' for them to accept.

Well... yeah actually it is, just. It's no worse than shading with a pencil, really. Better than making 300,000 little dots. But I didn't know that most people who stippled weren't actually making all those little dots, they were using a special paper called coquille, which had a course nap. You shaded normally with a pencil and the paper broke it up into dots. Like an idiot I stabbed the paper with an up and down motion of the hand tens of thousands of times! No wonder I found it tiring.

I had some paper like that, a sort of rough-ish surface that treated my pencil rather nicely, and recently spent a month or so drawing a series of pictures using just a pencil. When I was done filling in and shading I used a folded bit of paper napkin to rub it smooth and erase the over-run. I was even able to layer the pencil for an airbrush effect. I have no idea what kind of paper it was or where I got it, but would like to have MOAR. Probably some sort of fancy stationery.

Try an art supply store. Ask for Coquille board, which is prnounced Koh-kee'-eh, or at least should be. In the U.S. its apt to have been mangled to something like Koh'-keh-lee. (By analogy with kleek into clack, and too-pay into toop, and so on.)
