Mother Moon I
India ink and silver leaf. 12x18".
In memory of James H. Capaldi.
Like anything with leaf, it looks far nicer in person - and you will probably get the opportunity to see it if you're attending FC.
This piece is deeply personal. agentelrond came up with the design and myth of Mother Moon in a card she sent me earlier this year - a moth goddess whose wings displayed moon phases and could light up to guide moths away from danger. I was putting the finishing touches on the silver leafing the moment my mom burst in to get help trying to revive Dad on December 15th. The last few edges went untouched from that morning until tonight.
Some cultures believe moths are the spirits of the dead come back to check on their loved ones.

*hugs* I so glad you managed to finish and share this. It looks amazing—I could stare FOREVER at all those moths—and I love the way you've rendered Mother Moon. I can't wait to see it in person—having worked enough with leaf, I have some idea of how awesome it's going to look!
Hm, I might then - this or Moon Over Water. The printing method would vary depending on whether I tried to preserve the silvery metallic bits... not sure how vital people think those are. But I'll give it some thought!
