Book Smart is a unicorn that was born in Canterlot. He is – well, was – a student at the school of magic; one of Twilight Sparkle’s classmates, in fact. He has a similar propensity for knowledge, but while hers comes from books, his usually comes from experimenting. He was forced to move from Canterlot after a failed experiment on magical cloning instead simply doubled a Parasprite’s rate of reproduction and nearly caused a famine.

He moved to Ponyville, or at least near enough that he could make trips into town. He lives on the edge of the Everfree forest, selling books and magical items from his shop, Meter and Magic. He lives below the store, but works above, the attic his own personal work area where many various experiments are occurring. He is usually cheery, as long as the experiments are running well. But he’s easily distracted and since his magic keeps most of the experiments in check... well, you can see how Ponyville has as many problems as it does. But if he causes a problem, he will always take a break to go fix it.

Book Smart gets regular visits from Opal Sky and Blank Slate, although he hasn’t quite caught on to why Blank Slate keeps visiting; he seems to think she’s just there to remind him to eat. He’s slowly starting to catch on, though.
