so in light of seeing the second hobbit movie several days ago and seeing smaug in all in glory I decided to create my own version of what smaug might look like. I decided to go more from the book as him being a dragon with four legs instead of the two in see in the movie. I gave him a golden brown color because in the book his is refereed to as smaug the golden.

I will say I like your take on Smaug, despite the fact that I tend to lean more towards the Rankin-Bass's version.
And I will say this, although PJ has put forth his take on what Smaug looks like, it shouldn't mean that's is now the default look. Everyone has their own version what Smaug looks like and that's one of the things I like about Smaug.
He's such an iconic character that any person's take on what he looks like can all be considered and which one is what you decide on as how he looks, it's based on your preference.
He does look a bit more orange than gold. But pretty much is...well...Tolkien could never decide on what he's supposed to look like in the book. Was he red, was he gold, was he a mixture of the two?
I found one image Tolkien drew of Smaug with him as being red with some gold markings, then when he showed Smaug's death and falling upon Lake Town, he was straight gold.
So, even Tolkien couldn't really stick to one design.
However, I do have my own theories on the color. Smaug, during the day, his scales are reflective gold, but with a reddish undertone. As he got older, didn't bathe much, gathered more dirt on his body, he turned more red. And at night, he looks red.
But good rendition.

thanks for the review. :)
yeah, I mean I don't totally dislike the look peter jackson gave smaug, I like his head design very much, just is that we were all expecting him to have four legs instead PJ did a sharp turn in the opposite direction by making him have two legs.
yeah, I sometimes have hard getting the a good gold color down right without looking so orange. yeah, I know in most illustrations for him he is portrayed as being red, but I decided to think outside the box a bit. but I like your theory on how he could have reflective gold scales and as he aged more they turned more red.
