I only recently started playing this game (thanks a LOT
kenket *glareglare*).
Admittedly, I find every class pretty fun except Scout and Spy.. but Medic and Pyro are definitely my favs, and between Kio and Keovi, it's only fitting that she is the evil scientist-doctor, and Keovi the arsonist.
Poor Toku, just trying to fix things and build green, energy-efficient transportation :(

I so miss old school Q1 TF. Gameplay was so much better than TF2, IMO! :( Seems like a lot of the modern TF2 craze is about the comedy of the characters, which don't get me wrong, is great... just spent like 2 hours laughing at A Very Heavy Holiday and various TF2 Gary's Mod things, but yeah... </nostalgia>
I will admit I never played the original. But the argument that because it's different it's somehow worse is peculiar. It might have a different dynamic than the original, but I think on some respects that's better than playing the same game all over again because then wouldn't it just be better to play that old game?
I'm not saying you're wrong, or that I'm intrinsically right, I'm just saying that on it's own merits, TF2 is a lot of fun to play. Especially when you get a good team, or it's just you and your friends bullshitting. A lot of it has everything to do with comedy and I'll get sick of it from time to time, but every now and then I'll play TF2-and only TF2-for what feels like a solid month.
Just my thoughts.
