what is a western species?

Western dragons are usually portrayed as a fiercer, and more aggressive dragons, the kinds who eat fair maidens and children. They also have those leathery wing-type things and are usually on 2 or 4 legs. Eastern dragons are portrayed as wise, gentle creatures who are very helpful and nice, unlike the mindless cruel Western brutes. They usually do not have wings of any sort, but can still fly. They are very long and snake-like, while a Western dragon is more like a lizard sort of creature. :3

I used to have a thing for dragons, as a kid.

Yeah, it's a dragon. There's just a few differences between Western and Eastern. But they're both dragons. I've always been fascinated by them.

There was a book I read as a teen. Young adult. I read it right before I was taken from my mom.

It was about a dragon- golden, I think... or well a couple of dragons. but one male dragon was one of the main characters.

This girl goes to this island for some reason- I forget why. and she meets the male dragon. and they end up talking and she falls in love or something.

Anyways the other dragon are upset about the people being there... or something like that...

and the dragons name give's people power, I think. Or maybe I read that somewhere else....

In the end, I believe the girl somehow transforms into a dragon too. And some of the people try to kill the dragons.
