So, I read this on Seatails a few days ago and was waiting for you to post it here, so I could fave and comment properly! :}===<
This was a really really sweet story. Just.. adorable, in a way. Young love. :>
And, of course, you have a firm handle on writing merfolk. Keeping the idea of their tails present and active and unique/alien/exotic and the sort of things we've discussed before. Also, the general ideas on the life of a mer-person were very nice. Living in cliff-faces, in covered fissures, in wrecks, etc. Sounds like the sort of thing I would propose!
