Thanks!
Personally I prefer more "real" and functional designs, which is allowed but not the only options for machines in this particular project, so I had to learn to step out of my comfort zone a little.
I love the look of "Hawken" mechs, of which the brief showed nothing relatable haha.

That was the general idea, I wasn't sure whether to classify it as a medium or heavy because of that.
I had also planned (alas these were done on various 15 minute breaks during my workday) but never got to fooling around with the opposide; a lighter upper body to make "room / tonnage" for heavier weaponry, set on some sturdier legs to have something still manuverable but hard-hitting.

Either 10 or 12.
10 looks like it could be a fast attack mech used for strife missions. Get in and out fast. Cause a little confusion before the main force strikes the disoriented enemy. Quick movements would be powered by a jetpack on its back that would allow it to make small to medium range jumps.
12 looks like it could be a medium ground assault mech. Main attack mech with light to medium weaponry. Very versatile on the battlefield.
That's what I think of off the top of my head.

I like 7 and 9; 7 because of its robustness and scale (larger than the others I envision) and 9 because it similarly lacks arms and has an oversize gun (which makes me think it is a smaller mech designed to ambush).
I'd throw 8 in there too if untraditional mecha designs are a concern for your winning chances :>
In all, I think 9 would be a good entry: it's novel, but not so far from the archetype to put people off, I think!

In likeness order: 11, 6, 8, 1
I favor functionality and resilience above aesthetics.
11 because it's light enough for high speed travel, and looks really good / something you could engineer in real life (probably because cabin looks like a crossover between APC and a helicopter)
6 because it could fly (given it's energy source is powerful enough)
8 because it looks heavily armored.
1 because it looks robust, and no hands (Why would a mech need hands?! It's a war machine, not a kung-fu showcase.)

Hrm, I see things.
8 looks like some kind of battle armor a Krogan would wear in Mass Effect.
5 reminds me of a Promethean Knight from Halo 4.
7 looks almost exactly like those heavy tanks from Ghost in the Shell.
1 feels like a classic Mechwarrior chassis.
And I bet you're not aware of any of those titles. :P
Those look like rocket pods on #1, making that possibly anti-armor/mech killer.
#2 looks like a logistics or lode bearing rig, having no weapons.
Looks like #3 has shotguns or something suitably close range for use with high mobility.
$4 looks like some sort of ground attack fighter with different ordinance pods.
#5 and #10 look like duelists, close range, since robots don't usually use shields.
#6 makes me think it has some sort of sprinting attack, cutting through other mechs quickly.
#7 is a slow lumbering tank with a howitzer on it, it just is.
The crowd favorite #8 looks like a mid-rane modular heavy assault rig, sharklike w/cool protrusions.
#9 seems to be a sniper with deflective paneling and a low profile when crouched.
#11 resembles #3 in that it seems like a quicker close combat rig.
For #12 I'm leaning toward some kind of multipurpose cannon/anti-air launcher with radar support.
Favorites: 4, 6, 8, 9, 10 in no particular order. They all have pointed noses and jaggidy bits on their backs. They look like an invading alien force, while the rest (with the exception of 5) look like the more human builds.
Hey you asked for input :3

Wow!
Thanks for all the input, I do really appreciate it!
You're pretty close to everything I had aimed for when designing these guys. 8 seems to get a lot of positivity, as does 10. They were my personal favorites from the batch as well, so that works out well.
The two distinct design elements, "alien" and "human" as you put it are because in the brief I had, there's two companies who build their machines accordingly, so I did a little of both!

I really like 3. I dunno. It just screams "awesome" at me. Really agile, jumpy.
8 is nice and compact. Functional design. Reminds me of something I came up with back in high school. It was a more rounded/curvy and had a giant shotgun mounted on its back. Couldn't really draw and put it down on paper though xD
5 and 10 are pretty cool, have a nice jagged but sleek look to them. High speed, low drag, etc. although the "eyes" on 10 give it more personality. But red glowy eye/faceplate is cool too c:
9 looks like a heavy railgun platform. Take things out from a distance. Precise heavy artillery coming in at hypersonic speeds.
12's gun is pretty great. Lots of firepower, but it looks like it can hold up in melee combat, even though it appears a bit slow.

It looks exactly what I imagine for my species' mechanized units: heavily armored and armed, ready for any fight. Mine are equipped with weapons like number 10 though. I think mechs would have to be heavily armored to withstand the punishment they would receive (because they are taller and more exposed to fire), and come equipped with things like the Phalanx CIWS that the US Navy has on their ships to stop missiles and destroy enemy air support.
