I really like how they aren't running away from him like everyone else does. It makes sense that kids wouldn't be afraid of him. I can imagine him playing hopscotch with them all day, then scaring the crap out of their parents when they try to bring him home.

Kids can be really cruel and others could be so sensitive that he could be their nightmare fuel for a month without even trying. These kids seem (understandably) confused, but still unfazed.
