Selfportrait
Graphite on 12X12 arches satin finish.
Approx. 50 hours of work
2nd serious attempt at graphite.
Foreground done in soft pencils, and hard in the background so both grounds don`t compete. I tied the piece together with a flat-ribbon like motif entwining the symbol of the goddess, and my totem animal. Few things that have meaning to me.
Again, intentionally flat.
I didn`t do my hair with the softest led because it would make my face look too white in contrast. So I decided to fade it off and make stars in it. I think it compliments the themes better. I used a strange angle for the face instead of the conventional straight on or profile ones.
Themes of spirituality and animal totemism present in the piece. I portrayed myself as some sort of mysitc, witch-like being.
I had fun with this =)
One last self portrait to go for the semester!
Then a new sekhmet ref..and enough of me and lions for awhile =P

Goddamn thats a beautiful pic, awesome job! thats some really nice smooth shading..
if I had 1 small complaint.. the lioness seems to fade in to much with the back ground.. maybe you need to vary the values a bit more? you probably dont want to darken the lioness for more definition... I'd be afraid to make a mistake.. otherwise, really nice and your effort always shows!

This is really great! I too love the angle, and I also like your strategic addition of the moon cycles in the ribbon. The shading looks good, and you draw lioness quite well. Wow, can't say enough about this one. You should read my second journal entry entitled "my vie on furry". I think you mike like my ideas on totem animals. There might be one more or so journal entry of mine you might like too.
Thanks for sharing this one, it's great.

this is godly and magnificent mel. it shows how much effort you put into it, and the expression is to real and moving. you look very powerful here, and so does the lioness beside your face. the moons look as if they are glowing, and the shadow effects all around are fantastic. marvelous work mel, you should be proud!
Your facial anatomy with big cats and humans is amazing as always =3 I think it was a good idea making the hair soft, it didn't overwhelm the shading on her face.. and it really seems like a feminine piece, the half-moons help with giving it a sort of .. calm energy from looking at it, if that isn't silly. ^^ Your more primal form looks pretty much perfect and I'm not sure what else I could say about that X3 good job Sekhmet.
