All bees work like this. The worst case is killer bees. Even if they don't sting, once one dies by getting squashed, it calls the hive over. That's why they are so dangerous.

All bees have that. Killer Bees just are more aggressive so the pheromones of a single dead bee is already enough.
One thing I am curious to do is how long does a bee survive after a sting? I know they die but how long does that take?

It's certainly not immediate, as they do fly way after stinging, but it does take a minute to die.

When I was young I used to have a phobia of bees and wasps for the longest time but these days I could totally see myself getting into this sort of thing at some point in the future given enough time and research.

I don't think I could ever do that seeing as I'm allergic to bee stings. They make me swell up something fierce.

Ha, if only being faint of heart were the issue. I'm a man who makes a point to confront his fears. That said I'm not going to be foolish and let myself get stung by a bee knowing full well that I'm likely allergic. It's just common sense. It's a lot different than a simple test of mind over matter.
