They have been called many things, thought to be the bringers’ winters. Some think them cruel, merciless, and destructive un-caring for the life of the world. But then how do you think they feel when the spring warmth blankets the land?
These are the snow ponys, and their name holds true. If you were lucky enough to rest your hoof on one you will feel the chill of the winter's kiss. For their coats is indeed snow, living snow fused with the charge of their cores. Think of the cores like bones. The origin of the snows is unknown, ties to the spectral wendigos or pristine creations of the Crystal Ponies of old back when they were honing their identities, though the Snow Ponies not golems as one may think. This is where their origins become clouded. For you can't just go up ask them about their history. They are shy creatures who would rather be a vastness of a snow blinded scape then beside just one pony. The closest knowledge about them is in fact the wendigos. Due to their similar natures they coexist together, but because of the timid nature of the Snow Ponies and the aggressiveness of the wendigos the wendigos have claimed them as slaves’ and servants. The wendigos hold them under their influence so they can interact better with the physical world. This information was obtained when a wendigo happened to be capture by the Norse of Skyland.
Further information gleamed from the wendigo gave insight to the Snow Pony physiology. As stated the bones of the Snow Ponies hold their life like a core of a golem. But their bodies are comprised of living snow, snow to which is infused with the charge of the cores. To this matter every flake of snow can, if appropriately charged, be used to make a snow a body. Only visible part of the cores is the eyes of the Snow Ponies, very similar in nature them to gem like quality of the Crystal Ponies, again confusion to their precise origin. Like Crystal Ponies the sight of a Snow Pony, one can assume, is sharp and can be quote unquote telescopic, given series of rotations and refractions within the 'gem-eyes'.
Many if not all Snow Ponies look alike, varying hues of pale blues, whites, and light grays. Possible tell to the ages of the Snow Ponies, darker, less vibrant coats, manes, eyes show of age. However, age does not seem too based upon a yearly cycle. Contributing to this similarity as well is in fact that all Snow Ponies are indeed female, or would be called 'female'. No confirmation of this is record but the wendigo gave insight into their reproduction.
When a 'mare' would have a foal she can do two things. One is to bed in a deep heavy fresh snow bank and lay there for an unrecorded length of time. The second is to be accompanied by others in a more intimate act. Of one (or more) ‘mares’ have snow pack against their bodies, similar to where a womb would be. In both cases, although the first is longer, a 'mare' would become pregnant with a snow pony. This again leads to more confusion on the Snow Pony origin.
The act of a mare packing the snow against the body allows for compaction and increase in density at the center of the packed snow. Here the denser snow solidifies to a core of ice and becomes the core of the developing foal. Although now visual gestation is seen since the 'mare' ends up looking full term, after a span of time the foal is born. The foal constitutes the remaining pack snow for it body. Unknown is how the foal is born, or does the mother still needing recurring compaction of snow to their bodies. When a 'mare' goes into 'labor' the wendigo explained that she would go to a thick now bank and emerge later with a bright foal, and all sighs of the pregnancy gone.
This leads to the role of snow for the Snow Ponies. Not only being a critical means of reproduction it also controls the health of the Snow Pony. Frigged temperatures, thick accumulations, and fresh snowfalls tailor to the health of the Snow Pony. As these lessen in time the health of the Snow Pony diminishes as well. Though it is important to know that when the conditions are everything but that, although weak and sickly looking the Snow Pony will not perish immediately like the melting snow. However continual prolonged exposure to conditions not of a winter season the Snow Pony would indeed die. The death of a Snow Pony is not a puddle of water but similar to what an individual would look like if frozen to death, although thinner. No amount of heat can thaw the corpse however; the body is permanently frozen, or solid, exhibiting no longer a chilling touch. Interesting to note that, although the core of these ponies is solid they have an interesting way to leave an area that is starting to degrade in wintery conditions. Similar to a whirlwind of snow a Snow Pony will drift away to a more livable place. With this one would ask as to why the Snow Ponies keep to the treatment of the wendigos. A place of eternal frozen land where snow is constant and temperatures are dangerously low is the answer.
To add again to the origin problem is the fact that no matter the age all Snow Ponies have one uniform cutie mark - the cutie mark of Snowdrop.
Sightings of Snow Ponies where once dismissed as rumors or tails since these primarily fall under descriptions of foals seeing a pair ears sticking out of the snow (as seen in the confiscated pictured) or a near death experience for a traveler in a frozen waste land trapped in a blizzard and seeing a silhouette of a pony.
Although more information is needed, the insight gleamed from the wendigo is paramount to the understanding of this species. Further questions: Do Snow Ponies have influence to the weather, in regard to sightings of a pony as a blizzard consumes the area; What is their lifespan, as longs as conditions hold do they live the extended lives like Crystal Ponies; What is the process of birth of foals, how often, length of gestation; Their habits, do they have a society outside the influence of wendigos, nourishment, body systems and many more. The largest of these - their origin.

Finally read the description a little closer and I feel this one deserves a few extra comments.
The amount of detail given is superb, while just enough is left out for them to retain an air of mystery.
Design is original and downright adorable (but good lord those eyes would be terrifying lighting up from a dark corner)
Mixed together, its a thought out and well presented concept.
And Snowdrop's cutie mark you say? All the speculation that entails...

thank you- that means a lot, more than anything else. When I really want I can complex detailed things, though it tends to happen when I least expect it and not when I want it. Biology was one my favorite subjects, I was thinking about being one after I dropped out of Engineering, but alas I join those drunkers of Geologist. XD Though in all seriousness Thank you appreciation of my stories and details sometimes take the undertone.
