Some of my best artistic ideas are inspired by the characters of other anthroartists. This time around, my inspiration came from a couple of corpulent canids created by BD.
In addition to seeing his 'fat furry' art in such websites as "FurNation", "The Round House", "Gain-R-Web", etc., BD also drew images in 'hard copy' format for a few publications. One such 'zine was the short-lived alternative anthropomorphic publication "Ten Furcent". It was in a few of its pages that BD came up with a rambunctious pair of roommates, known simply as "The Beerwufs".
Although I could've easily drawn something pertaining to their 'lifestyle', I'd preferred to illustrate them, engaged in their main interest: the consumption of their favorite body-building beverage, beer!
It's a pity that BD had openly admitted that he's been drawing less and less (according to the opening statement in his "FA" site), because The Beerwufs could've had the potential of being the lead characters of their own spin-off publication - be it a fanzine or (in my case) a comic book for grown-ups (to be sold in 'head shops' and 'alternative lifestyle stores' in New York, San Francisco, Key West, [the South Beach section of] Miami, and elsewhere). The image I've rendered is the cover art for a comic book prototype (complete with logos for the title and the publisher)...
And since this week we'd celebrated "Earth Day", I couldn't think of a better situation for the two hop-inhaling hounds than to have them do their part for ecology, by taking all of their empty beer cans to the neighborhood recycling plant... Of course, they have to empty them first! (Today, aluminum beer cans; Tomorrow, glass beer bottles!)
FOOTNOTE #1: I'd made the pooches paunchier than originally rendered by BD - back in the 1990s - but a 'beer belly' of any size (like a rose by any other name) is still a sweet thing to have!
FOOTNOTE #2: Had a comic book about "The Beerwufs" ever existed, its subject matter would be "For Adults Only". But for the purpose of this presentation, I'd made the cover art of said prototype G-rated. Furthermore, if this had been a quarterly comic - starting with the April issue, the story ideas for subsequent issues could've easily revolved around the rest of the year. For example, Issue #2 (released in July) would have a 'beach theme' (an ideal location for beer-drinking), and Issue #3 (released in October) would be set in Germany (where the portly pair would partake in Ocktoberfest... or try to, anyway)!

It should be noted that I used several different images of BD's characters as models for the finished art. (None of them were traced; they were all drawn in free-hand.) The canid on the left was drawn with his ears down - as compared to usually kept upright in all of the other "Beerwufs" drawings. I'm kind of proud of the look on his face, myself...
Well yes Rob...it's pretty great! If I wasn't so busy with my musical projects I'd even say hell yes, let's do it. Too bad this didn't happen about 12 or 13 years ago :) Imagine all the funny, stupid, weird situations those guys could get into. And the stack of beer cans could get higher and higher on each successive cover!
The only thing is...I seriously doubt those guys are hurrying to the recycling place out of any sense of ecology, I think they just want to get a few bucks so they can buy one more six pack for the night.

Thanks for the positive feedback, BD!
Of course, if I'd made the stacks of beer cans taller on future covers, I wouldn't have to draw "The Beerwufs" on them at all!
You're right about the idea of them buying more beer with the money they'd collect from the recyclers. I'm sure that other ideas with them will be brewing in my mind in the near future...

In the past, several 'fat furry' artists (I won't name names) were proposing putting together a 'hard copy' publication of their material, but it never materialized. Perhaps a groundswell of popular support can result in a fanzine full of swollen critters, for the masses!
