^Very much this. A bid like this is pretty much about 5/8ths my monthly check from work. I'll more than settle with trying to get a stream sketch when the opportunity arrives any day, needless to say. ;^^

Shame I haven't had any work this month.... Would gladly bid higher than 500$, since the currency for my country contra the American Dollar is low right now. But I have to use that money on regular stuff for basic living, like food and bills, since food in general is expensive (depends easily on what store I buy the food from). But lately everything gets more expensive in my country, I even have to pay around 100$ if I'm to buy a new and unused video game (what the estimate is at current currency value). As for me it depends highly on how much work I get if I really can join in on something like this. So I'm really jealous of the guy that bid 500.

That is pretty much it. Nothing can be done about auctions. They exist just for this very reason!

Save some of the money you'd have spent this time around for the next go around. And in the meantime, save up a little more on the side. Then you, yes YOU, can be the one everyone scoffs at for spending so much! Half of one's monthly salary isn't so bad when it's been saved up out of the past..ohhh..six months or so.
