The Empress of the Dreamlands is Great Cthulhu, who lies not Dead, but Dreaming, in his watery lair. It took some time to decide upon the Empress for this set, for, HP Lovecraft has very few female characters. But, upon considering that the Emperor is of course the Demon Sultan Azathoth, Cthulhu becomes the logical counterpart, for where Azathoth is active through his messenger Nyarlathotep, who walks the waking world as well as the Dreamlands, Cthulhu works subconsciously, seeping into the dreams of men and eventually corrupting them
