In the past I have been asked how I make my latex masks and castings. So I started working on a small tutorial on how I do it.
If your interested in it, you can download it from:
http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/3.....tex%20Mask.rar
or you can also download it from my main site:
http://www.hidden-arts.com
if there is any problems with the link just let me know.

Wow! This is so useful!! Just a few hours ago (while looking at the website for the AnimeCon in Wichita) I was thinking about how I'd love to learn how to make these, so I could make a mask for the con if I go.. And then I find this! Thank you so much!! :D
Sorry for this total noob question, but where the heck do you buy the latex/plaster? Do you have to order it online? Oh, and what do you think is best to make the positive out of?
Thanks again!

I buy the latex from the net. http://www.cementex.com I think. But I can purchase their products from amazon.com.
The plaster is just "Plaster of paris", and I buy it in 15lb bags from LOWES.
I made my positive from a life-casting of my own face. I used "alginate" for the casting phase of my face, and then poured plaster into it to get my permanent positive.
If you need help doing any of these things I might be able to help in person if your not too far from wichita.

btw, When is wichita's AnimeCon?

Awww, I don't have that kind of money at the moment.. Actually, it'll be quite a while before I have that kind of money.. Being too young to get a real job sure doesn't pay very well. ):
Oh, just Plaster of Paris? I think I've seen that at Wal-Mart. I'll have to look for it!
So how exactly do you make a mold of your face? Do you stick your head in a bucket of the stuff or something? :P
I'm sure I could use some help, if I ever managed to actually get ahold of the required supplies.. But I don't see that happening. Even if I could afford it, I don't really have the place to actually do it. If I get the money, time and place to try it, though, I'm sure I'd like the help!
Anime Festival Wichita will be on August 15th-17th this year. http://afwcon.org/index.shtml
I wasn't planning on going, but my sister said she wants to go with me so I might have the courage to go do it, ha ha! =P Would be a lot more fun if I could make a darn mask, though!

The latex is the most expensive. ($40 a gallon I think.) but that will make an ungodly amount of crap.
They do have plaster of paris at wal-mart. but it's almost twice as expensive.
At LOWES you can get 25lbs for about $15. enough to make a few negatives.
The best way to get a good idea of life-casting, you should watch the creature feature affects on DVD extras like "An american werewolf in london" Life casting is an art in it's own.
I have lots of extra materials hanging around. If you are ever in the area and want a chance to throw something together, just holler. I am willing to help. Once you see it done you realize how easy it is. but you're right about the monies...Starting from scratch could cost about $100 bucks just to buy the basic materials. ...and it's kinda a lot of monies to be throwing around if you aren't sure how you'll like it.... or how it may turn out.

Ahh the best tutorial ever! *shifts about searching for all the ingrediants needed and writes a list*
I know you probably won't be back for a while but...do you know if there is any possible way that you can send me that mask. I promised a friend I'd have his birthday present and...yeah.....

I will check what I have out in storage tomarrow... If I got one already molded I will send it to you. if not I will go ahead and cast one.
sorry I've been kinda out of it recently, lots of stuff screwing with me that I can't avoid.
I don't intentionally drop commissions, but this last few months have been killer. and until I can find another job (which is hard in today's economy) I am trying to get my prioreties straight.
