One day while I was at school, one of our instructors had us work on making our own synth style sounds, and adding effects to new sounds using some plugins we received.
(This was before I knew how to use Battery 4 (an audio plugin with high quality drum samples), so I used Logic's stock plugin Ultrabeat.

I haven't heard of Sylenth1, but Massive is pretty amazing. I was, somewhat, taught how to use it (like how to add LFOs and such), but I made the mistake of forgetting. ;-; I need to read up on how to properly use it.
One Plugin I use a lot nowdays is Octopus. I like the sequencers it has.
