The art style mimics Another World (aka Out of this World), with the background taken from a screenshot of that game. As there is no prior art of him, Ignis himself was basically drawn from scratch, from my specifications. I'm very pleased with how it turned out.
People have been asking me about the name. 'Ignis' is Latin for 'fire'. There is no Latin word for 'gargoyle', but it comes from the Old French 'gargole', which is derived from the Latin 'gurgulio', meaning gullet (throat). Therefore the phrase "ignis gurgulio" translates as "gullet fire". Very loosely, it could also be seen to mean "Ignis the gargoyle".
