And here is the finished piece! It needs light behind it to make the rich reds at the bottom glow the way they should. The reason why I have used textured glass at the top is not pure masochism - it is meant to represent heat shimmers.

I have made many, many mistakes here, but I have also learned a lot. I hope that my next piece will be better. I hope to make an owl soon.
