My favourite is "tomadach" or tommies for short (the 'ch' is soft). Tomadach means "of greater size" in Scottish gaelic, and I'm also told tomodachi means "friend" in Japanese!

It's currently sparking wide debate on how to pronouch the 'ch' though - I keep saying it's pronoucned like the soft ch in loch or Bach but I'm told that is no help. While I love the double meaning and short version of tomadach it's likely it'll be pronounced incorrectly for time immemorial. I don't know if that is a good thing in order to spark conversation, or if it's just stupid.

Ideally I'd like to keep it to one word - if you have a suggestion I would love to hear it!
