Haven't you ever heard of the phrase "contract goes to the lowest bidder"? Colt got the contract because they met the standards the military, not because the rifles they make are of higher quality. Colt rifles are still plenty good, but in a day and age where everyone and their moms are making ARs they're hardly at the front of the pack anymore. Really, only thing you're paying for is the name.
The operating system most AR-pattern rifles use is called "direct-gas impingement." That said, there are a few companies who have adopted the AR platform to use a gas piston instead.

Once you get that new lower receiver it's gonna be hard to control the incredible rate of fire...
30 magazine clips in half a second... That's 900 rounds of pure destruction. You're gonna need a new recoil reducing butt-stock. Perhaps a miniaturized version of the same recoil technology they use on the M1 Abrams would suffice? Yes? No? :X
Oh yes... Silly me. Ghost guns already have a half-inch group at 2.85 miles, right?
