It's an anime. To quote Wikipedia: "The story takes place in a universe where historical WWII-era tanks are maintained for sports warfare competitions and large carrier ships known as Academy Ships support mobile sea communities. High school girls participate in "tankery", the art of operating tanks, as a traditional martial art."
