The thoughts that keep me awake at night. Often I worry about the "what if" types of things of the past, present, and future. They feel much as a weight bearing down on the mind, slowly compressing it. All the while, a torrent of both the unanswered and unasked questions rain down upon me, jumbling my current thoughts into incoherence. This is about the time that I finally drift off into sleep, relaxing through about... 7 a.m., which is when I have to get up to get ready to go to work. Being alone with only one's own thoughts can be a very harrowing experience.
Strangely enough, the fact that this has become somewhat of a routine thing for me calms me as much as it worries me, and the two have started to cancel each other out, just leaving me wide awake in the middle of the night. Crazy, huh?
Note: The shadowing is coming from a small light that I use to read by to try and get to sleep.
