I'm trying to speed up when drawing my sketches so I'm pitting myself against a timer. I'm tempted to open a pay what you want commission type that dictates how long I work for but I'm worried the quality will be awful... especially when drawing a character I'm not used to.
Then again with my current speed and prices I'm getting waaay less than minimum wage.

Well I've only been thinking about it within the last few days... but I figured maybe the minimum price that could be paid would be $3, which would be only a five minute head doodle. Pretty messy. Each dollar added would be an extra 2.5 minutes of drawing time though.
That said if someone paid $10 then the time would be 25 minutes (I could add some time boosts after certain milestones are hit...). $12 would be 30 minutes...
$24 would be a little over an hour (this is probably starting to getting more into more refined sketches kind of time though - if it was a single character). It would certainly make for a better wage. And I'd still have some leeway so I could keep working for a few more minutes if I needed to finish a part I was working on. That and because I'm pitted against a timer I'll hopefully (in theory) be faster since I can't procrastinate by checking tumblr 50 times an hour :P
But to answer your question~ something like this image would probably be somewhere between $12 and $18 for a single character if I was to go with the timed method. Basically a coloured doodle could somewhere between 30 and 45 minutes - sometimes it can take me a little while to find a pose I like. I spent about 10 minutes trying to get this pose down.
