As a pup, Kiara DeLair was always lovable and caring. Even after growing into a gifted athlete, she still retains her virtues. She is the best tennis player in town thanks to her familiarity with her feral instincts and dreams of becoming a professional. Despite being highly athletic, her intelligence has her at the top of her class. Indeed, she is a prodigy with her work cut out for her. Walking home from her first day as a high school senior, Kiara was cornered by three Chihuahua hoodlums in search of a wallet to steal. She could not help but laugh at how three munchkins hoped to overpower her. Even with no knowledge of fighting and her claws as her only weapons, she was easily able to hold her own in the scuffle with the thugs, until the alpha pulled out a handgun and aimed squarely between her eyes. Back against the wall and her eyes squeezed shut, the shot was fired at Kiara. But as clear and close as it was, the bullet hit the wall only two inches from her face. Opening her eyes, one assailant laid before her on the ground, his lip busted open as the other two shook with fear at the silhouette standing between them and their would-be prey. The outline was of a wolf, at which one ruffian pulled a knife out on, the weapon was loosely gripped in the Chihuahua’s quivering hand. The wolf took only one step closer before the thug tried to stab him, but instead left with only one arm intact as the other carried their downed comrade away. The wolf gave one final growl as the attackers left and turned his head toward the domestic canine against the wall. Kiara was too distracted by this amazing creature to break down in tears over this near death experience. The purple irises in the wolf’s eyes glowed bright. She was astounded and slightly frightened by this wolf. Although the look in his eyes was that of compassion and empathy, their fierce glow intimidated her greatly. The wolf came closer into the light, where Kiara could see that he was not much older than her. He wore outlandish silk attire riddled with dust, implying that he was without a home. As a show of gratefulness, she invited the wolf to stay the night at her house, having to insist when the wolf did not wish to impose. That night, the wolf told Kiara his story, his name was Lang Shu; he was part of a secret race of anthro wolf guardians and had come from another world searching for his beloved mate to be. This other world he told her of was populated by creatures known as humans, and her kind were their most popular companions, though they could not walk upright or speak as they do in her world. Had it not been for this wolf’s supernatural abilities, she would not have believed him. Shu asked Kiara to tell no one about him or his powers, she would agree to this after he signed her favorite tennis ball. She believed it would give her good luck as he had for saving her, and serve as something to remember him by. He left, promising he would need nothing to remember her, for she was a most unique individual with a pure heart, which goes unforgotten by those of his kind. Leaving her with his seal and his kind words, he departed to continue his search. It was hard for Kiara to keep this to herself, the only way to satiate this urge to share her secret was to see Shu again. Telling her mother that she was leaving hard, but she wanted to learn more of this wolf and the other possible worlds out there. With the scent left behind by his signature, she began a journey to find her new friend and repay his act of bravery.
