One of EMD's best-selling diesels sleeps peacefully on the point of a Florida Rock aggregate train, set to depart next morning. This is a 16-second time exposure. I painted the locomotive with a flashlight to make her stand out. :3

CSXT 8082 (EMD SD40-2) Built as L&N 8082 and went to SBD 8082. This unit is still wearing the road number she was born with. :3

It's actually not common at all! If it always was that way, major railroads wouldn't have any organization, and would have several diesels with the same number. XD

hehe, funny you say that, because i once saw a NS and a CSX with identical numbers. (not together)
And CSX seems to fine numbering their units whatever, I've seen them as high as 9964 and as low as 1.
*shrugs* So, i dunno what the process of loco numbering is.

9964 was probably a maintenance of way vehicle of some sort...or bright orange and since retired :B 1 is the class leader AC4400CW. They are grouped by type: 1-599 are AC4400CWs, 600-699 are AC6000CWs, 700-999 are ES44AHs, and so on. As for same number, different railroad, example: on CSX, 2573 is a GP38-2; on NS, it's an SD70.

I can never get a night time shot of one because around here they never stop

And I don't think anyone would appreciate me wandering around the Sanford Rand yard! x3

Thank you! It wasn't daylight out, and I wasn't about to go home without a photograph of this amazing machine, so I improvised!

You can always ask, or just shoot from outside the property. The worst they can do is say 'no'. ^^

I do have to admit, I have never witnessed one with such a long nose!
Normally I see ones kinda short and the cab entrance is located on the front of the nose as well.
This is a different one!

The diesel was tied down and not running. I simply slowly moved the flashlight over the locomotive while the camera was exposing. :3
