Looks like stormy weather in there.

How old is it? If its really old (like one of the originals) the wax kinda breaks down and stops melting right. I had an original that died like that.

Got it for christmas. Story goes, I live in Texas, on a lakefront. My room a no insulation whatsoever, and only a small portable heater to keep me warm. It's been unusually cold down here recently, and being ten feet from a large body of water doesn't help much in terms of warm weather. At night, the temperature drops thirty degrees fahrenheit (meaning it's warmer inside my wine fridge than it is outside) and the cold gets to the goo in the lamp. I think anything below eighty is too cold for that stuff to stay liquid, so event leaving it on all night, it still solidifies in the jar.

That's probably true. Maybe moving it to a different location would help.

On the plus side, it does look like some sort of primordial creature floating in amniotic fluid. My ex-boss has a lava lamp on his desk with a bad power cord. I just sits with congealed wax day in and day out, and nowhere near as cool as yours.
